Sussex has strengthened its position as one of the UK’s most exciting food destinations, with five restaurants across the region awarded in the 2026 Michelin Guide. The latest awards highlight the quality, creativity and diverse local produce that showcases Sussex’s culinary visitor offer, from rewilded estates to elegant country manor hotels and contemporary dining rooms.

New star for Sussex’s vibrant coastal City

A new Michelin Star has been awarded to Mare by Rafael Cagali in Brighton and Hove. The restaurant brings a distinctive blend of Brazilian and Italian influences to the Sussex coast, championing local produce. The star adds further depth to the city’s food scene and reinforces the region’s standing as a destination for diners seeking diverse, internationally influenced cooking.

Established stars continue to showcase Sussex culinary excellence

Three established West Sussex restaurants also retain their One Michelin Star status in 2026. Ben Wilkinson at The Pass at South Lodge offers a refined experience with diners seated close to the working kitchen.
Gravetye Manor near East Grinstead continues to celebrate estate‑grown ingredients from its renowned gardens, set in a stunning contemporary glass fronted dining room with views to the grounds.
Interlude at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens maintains its place as a destination for experience tasting menus shaped by seasonal produce and expertly foraged ingredients.

All three restaurants offer Michelin-approved accommodation, from luxurious rooms and Spa stays at South Lodge, to the characterful Michelin Key rated hotel in the historic Gravetye Manor.

Sustainability in the spotlight with new Green Star for Knepp

A new Michelin Green Star, awarded to restaurants with a strong commitment to sustainability, has been awarded to Knepp Wilding Kitchen for the first time. Located within the pioneering Knepp Estate near Horsham, the restaurant focuses on regenerative farming and estate-reared produce, providing a low-impact dining offer in the heart of the rewilding project.

Interlude at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens retains its Green Star alongside its Michelin Star, reinforcing the Sussex region’s reputation for sustainable, estate‑based gastronomy.
