What better way to explore Sussex than on two wheels. The county boasts some of the best cycle routes across the country, and plenty to choose from. From flat roads, country lanes and rolling hills, Sussex is a great place to get out on a bike. If you like cycling, want to grab a breath of fresh air or leave the city behind, then our sunny county has plenty of countryside to cycle around, and is traversed by the 100-mile South Downs way, a very scenic mountain biker’s challenge. We've collected some unmissable routes on this page plus you can explore cycle route maps for both East & West Sussex:
A 5 mile route following a disused railway line, the Centurion Way follows part of the old Chichester to Midhurst railway line. It is flat and traffic free, making it ideal for cycling families or for walkers looking for a pleasant easy stroll. For the here and now, the route links to the fascinating city of Chichester with its cathedral, busy shopping centre and nearby harbour. The Centurion Way is also a favourite route out into the South Downs for those looking for a longer, more challenging ride. View the Centurion Way route.
A 19 mile route taking you in a loop from Duncton taking in parts of the South Downs Way. You'll pass Bignor, Amberley, the river Arun and on to Waltham Brooks nature reserve. View the Duncton/Amberley route.

This great family ride takes you along the coast where you can admire the fabulous beaches of Worthing and Brighton on one side and the South Downs in the horizon on the other. View the Worthing to Brighton route.
This 10-mile route is flat and traffic-free, with seats and picnic benches along the entire route, making it the perfect day out for families. The Forest Way takes you through the heart of the East Sussex countryside where you might spot dragonflies, newts, swallows, badger tracks, deer or foxes. . View the Forest Way route.
A fantastic coastal cycle route ideal for beginners and families. It runs alongside a railway line, linking two existing paths to complete a 5 km traffic-free route from Hastings to Bexhill-on-Sea, offering fantastic seaside views along the way. View the Hastings & Bexhill route.
The ride begins at Rottingdean on a path between the A259 and the sea, with the ups and downs and spectacular views you would expect from a clifftop path. The path takes you down to Brighton Marina, where luxury yachts are moored alongside small pleasure craft, and into the vibrant and cosmopolitan town of Brighton.
