Newhaven & surrounding area

The coastal towns of Newhaven, Peacehaven and Seaford combine seaside charm with easy access to countryside and bucket-and-spade-loads of history.

Newhaven

Newhaven is a welcoming harbour town that offers a refreshing mix of coastal activities, family fun and cultural heritage. Ideally located between Brighton and Eastbourne, it’s the perfect base for discovering the best of East Sussex.

Visitors can explore the dramatic cliffs of the nearby Seven Sisters Country Park, enjoy panoramic views from the South Downs Way, or keen cyclists can connect to the Avenue Verte from Paris to London through the local cycle network including the Cuckoo Trail. Newhaven Port adds a lively maritime atmosphere, with regular DFDS ferry crossings to Dieppe offering a connection to France and beyond.

Nature lovers will appreciate the Tide Mills historic site and beach, a peaceful spot for walking and wildlife watching, while families can enjoy Newhaven Fort - an award-winning attraction set within a Victorian fortress overlooking the sea. Culture lovers will discover a creative scene in Newhaven, with regular Art installations and exhibitions including BN9 Studios and the Look Again Festival murals.

With easy access to vineyards, festivals and cultural events across the region, Newhaven is a gateway to the wider Sussex experience.

Seaford and Seaford Head

Seaford is a popular gateway to the stunning Seven Sisters Country Park, where you can stroll along hills in pristine Sussex countryside. The town itself boasts a relaxed beach, which is ideal for a post-walk dip and seaside picnic – especially in the warmer weather.
