The Sussex Winelands region is an internationally respected area of Sussex, which benefits from a climate and soil composition similar to the viticulture regions of France. Sussex is often referred to as the heartland of English winemaking for its award-winning vineyards and acres of scenic beauty in which to enjoy tasting a variety of still and sparkling English wines.

Here in Sussex, we are blessed with an abundance of vineyards and wineries, producing distinctive flavours that give Champagne a serious run for its money. With wine tourism growing in popularity and many of our experts waiting to welcome you, we’ve rounded up the vineyards that you can tour, taste, and experience for yourself.

Vineyards in the Chichester region

Ashling Park, Chichester

Ashling Park Estate’s grand tasting rooms and five luxury lodges, which are all designed by William Hardie of TV’s Amazing Spaces fame, are made from local material including wood sourced from the South Downs National Park.
Good for: world-class dining, masterclasses, and wine retreats in luxury lodge accommodation.
Visit: vineyard tours and tastings from Thursdays to Sundays. Tours of the vineyard are followed by wine tasting on the balcony overlooking the vineyard, gardens, and lakes of the estate. On the ground floor is an experience room with an immersive 360-degree experience including visuals, tastes, and smells.
Closest railway station: Nutbourne, 8-minute drive.
Stay: Ashling Park has a selection of one or two-bedroom luxurious lodges.

Blackdown Ridge Estate, Haslemere

Sitting at the highest point of the Sussex Weald, mirroring the soil of the Champagne region of France, Blackdown Ridge Estate planted its first vines in 2010 and produced its first sparkling wine in 2015.
Good for: incredible vineyard views over the South Downs National Park.
Visit: Enjoy a tour of the estate, learn more about the vines and sample some of the national and international award-winning English wine, both still and sparkling.

Roebuck Estates, Petworth

Located close to the picturesque market town of Petworth in West Sussex, Roebuck Estates was established in 2013 by two friends who shared a passion for great wine and had a clear vision: to craft exceptional vintage sparkling wines every single year using estate-grown fruit from only the finest vineyard sites in England.
Over summer, Roebuck Estates hosts a series of events including Sunset Sipping evenings on selected Fridays at The View, their beautiful new tasting area perched at the top of their stunning Petworth vineyard.
Good for: showstopping South Downs sunsets from The View savoured with a glass of vintage English sparkling wine.
Visit: vineyard tours and tastings on selected Fridays and Saturdays from May to September.

Tinwood Estate, Chichester

Since its first planting in 2007, the Tinwood Estate has become known for its outstanding selection of sparkling wines. This beautiful boutique vineyard hosts a fantastic events programme, including Yoga in the Vines on Tuesday summer evenings, and serves modern British tapas in its Vineyard Kitchen for sharing and pairing with Tinwood’s award-winning Sussex sparkling wine.
Good for: modern and sociable wining and dining.
Visit: open seven days a week with regular tours and tastings including afternoon teas on Wednesdays.
Closest railway station: Chichester, 15-minute drive.

Upperton Vineyards, Petworth

Upperton is a family-run vineyard with wonderful views in the rolling South Downs countryside growing a mixture of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir to produce exceptional wine that is available to buy in the vineyard shop.
Good for: sparkling wine on the terrace with panoramic views of the South Downs.
Visit: the shop is open Tuesday to Saturday and the Terrace Bar on Fridays and Saturdays.

Kingscote Estate, East Grinstead

Set within 150 acres of land, with fishing lakes and a 14th-century Tithe barn, the Kingscote Estate began its journey as a vineyard in 2010 and produces award-winning still and sparkling wines. Under new ownership as of 2017, the vision at Kingscote Estate is to continue pursuing the dream of its late founder, Christian Monge, and build on the renowned Kingscote name.
Good for: wandering the estate’s self-guided walks around its two stunning trails and rewarding yourself with a glass of bubbles.
Visit: open seven days a week, with tours and tastings on Fridays, Saturdays, and selected Sundays.

Busi Jacobsohn Wine Estate is a family-run single‑estate vineyard in the High Weald of East Sussex, producing award‑winning, English sparkling wines using sustainable methods.
Good for: design values and environmental ethos.
Visit: open days in July and August and bespoke tastings by appointment.

Artelium Wine Estate, Hassocks

Connecting the crafts of winemaking and contemporary art, Artelium Wine Estate is a boutique vineyard with a creative spirit, beautifully drawing upon its South Downs landscape as a canvas for showcasing contemporary art, a sculpture garden, and cultural events.
Good for: art and sculpture set off beautifully in a natural South Downs vineyard setting.
Visit: tours and tastings are open to visitors on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and regular outdoor feasting events take place throughout the summer.
Closest railway station: Plumpton, 10-minute drive or 30-minute walk through the South Downs fields.

Ridgeview Wine Estate, Hassocks

The Ridgeview story is a true family labour of love, extending to the wider team it has built to date. Close to the village of Ditchling, the vineyard is home to classic varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and has produced astounding sparkling wines to international acclaim.
Ridgeview’s contemporary vineyard restaurant – The Rows & Vine – serves a paired tasting menu perfect for enjoying alfresco on its roof terrace.
Good for: wine flights of Ridgeview Wine Estate’s full collection of Signature and Limited Release English sparkling wines in the tasting room overlooking the vines.
Visit: open daily for visitors and tours and tastings, or sit back and enjoy sparkling wines by the glass along with seasonal small plates next to the Chardonnay vineyard at The Rows & Vine outdoor restaurant. There’s also a free self-guided audio tour and woodland walk.

Albourne Estate, Hassocks

Albourne Estate is a family-owned boutique vineyard nestled on the edge of the South Downs National Park producing small quantities of quality still and sparkling English wines. Albourne’s smaller site was selected for its imperative growing conditions and allows its team to pay meticulous detail at every step of the winemaking process.

Good for: Cannonball E-bikes’ wine-tasting tours cycle through the South Downs National Park to visit Albourne Estate on the weekends.
Visit: full tour and tasting packages can be booked for Saturday and Sunday mornings throughout summer, with a walk around the vineyard to learn about the challenges and joys of growing grapes in the UK. You’ll also see the specialist equipment involved in producing wine and enjoy a tutored tasting of the current releases in the tasting room.

Albourne Vineyard

 

Ambriel, West Chiltington

Ambriel (Redfold Vineyards) is home to the international award-winning Ambriel Sparkling Wines, including the gold medalled Blanc de Blancs 2010. With complete control from grape to glass, Ambriel wines are crafted to reflect the terroir and are ‘Ebulliently English’.
Good for: a traditional and quintessentially English Sussex vineyard.
Visit: tours and tastings are available by appointment on selected dates.

Bolney Wine Estate, Haywards Heath

One of England’s first and pioneering vineyards, Bolney Wine Estate began in 1972 as one of just six commercial vineyards in the country. Since then, it has become a wine tourist destination for wine experts, West Sussex residents, and visitors far and wide, for its varied collection of white, red, rose, and sparkling wines, as well as more recent forays into producing gin and vermouth.
Good for: an original English vineyard experience.
Visit: throughout the year, a wide variety of tours, tastings and special events are held to delight your inner epicurean, including seasonal feasts, wine and food pairing and family-friendly trails. The onsite café and adjoining shop, The Eighteen Acre, is open regularly for breakfast, lunch, coffee and picnic boxes, or a spot of shopping for gifts and local produce.

Kinsbrook Vineyard, Pulborough

Run by some of the youngest vineyard owners in the UK, Kinsbrook Vineyard is a modern and progressive vineyard emphasising sustainability and inclusiveness. Kinsbrook features a beautifully designed barn housing a farm shop, café, and restaurant serving local produce and delicious seasonal dishes all surrounded by panoramic views of the vineyard.
Good for: breakfast, brunch, or a light lunch in a cool, casual, and friendly setting.
Visit: public tours and tastings are available Thursday to Sunday by appointment. Café open seven days a week.

Leonardslee Vineyard

Leonardslee Wine Estate is set against the horticultural magnificence of the restored Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens with vines flowing down from Leonardslee House, punctuated by stunning sculptures and art. Leonardslee Wine Estate also has two exceptional golf courses.
Good for: pairing your vineyard visit with a stroll around a Grade I listed garden or an outstanding round of golf.
Visit: open Wednesday to Sunday for vineyard tours and wine tastings in the Leonardslee Tasting Room. 
Closest railway station: Horsham, 15-minute drive.
Stay: the Vineyard Hotel at Leonardslee Wine Estate has nine elegant bedrooms and the Estate also has a charming self-catering cottage that sleeps eight.

Nutbourne Vineyard, Pulborough

One of the earlier vineyards within West Sussex, Nutbourne Vineyard has a reputation for its fantastic Reisling-style still wines and sparkling blends and has been managed by winemaker Owen Elias for almost 30 years.
Nutbourne Vineyard’s popular ‘pop up in the vines’ events are a magical and memorable opportunity to dine among the vines or in the gorgeous Wine Lodge, Raj Tent, or historic Windmill.
Good for: following the self-guided vineyard trail around the vines using an illustrated map from the veranda shop or ambient alfresco dining at a magical ‘pop up in the vines’ event.
Visit: The vineyard is open from Monday to Saturday. On Saturdays from May to September there are guided tours of the vineyard and winery, followed by a tasting of Nutbourne’s still and sparkling wines.

Nyetimber, West Chiltington

Another pioneer within the English wine industry, Nyetimber has been producing wine for over 30 years, yet came to its full potential when Eric Heerema took over the estate in 2006. The experienced winemaking team assesses each of the estate’s handpicked vineyards to ensure optimal ripeness and gently press the fruits individually to understand their distinctive differences and make blending decisions.
Good for: world-renowned English sparkling wine.
Visit: open day tours take place on selected summer weekends, or the exclusive 1086 by Nyetimber paired dining experience offers a rare opportunity to enjoy the prestige cuvee at the heart of the Nyetimber Estate.

Stopham Vineyard, Pulborough

Stopham Vineyard began its journey in 2007, combining a passion for English wine and the changeable Sussex countryside. Grapes are grown, nurtured, and hand-picked on the estate to produce white and sparkling wines that are fruity, crisp, and with a natural acidity.
Good for: vineyard tours followed by a riverside pub lunch.  
Visit: join winemakers Simon or Tom on a tour of the vineyard and winery, followed by tutored tastings on most Saturdays throughout wine season, with the option to enjoy a pub lunch by the river at The White Hart on the River Arun at Stopham Bridge.

Charles Palmer

A distinguished single wine estate, Charles Palmer Vineyards is within the 120-acre Wickham Manor Estate on the edge of the ancient wine trading port town of Winchelsea. Wickham Manor is so connected to Winchelsea’s history that its network of old cellars runs beneath the town.
Good for: historical and coastal connections – Winchelsea is a 20-minute walk via the 1066 footpath which runs directly through the farm.
Visit: guided wine tastings and winery tours are available Wednesday to Sunday.
Closest railway station: Rye, 10-minute drive.
Stay: the 16th-century Wickham Manor has two separate wings available as accommodation with sea views.

Mountfield Winery, Robertsbridge

Mountfield Winery is a pretty 10-acre vineyard on a family estate with charming characteristics including the winery in an old dairy unit and a timber-beamed tasting room in the stables next to the estate house.
Good for: a classic and characterful English vineyard experience.
Visit: events including vineyard tours and tastings, and winery picnics take place on selected dates throughout the year.
Closest railway station: Robertsbridge, 8-minute drive.
Stay: a newly converted cabin on the edge of the Mountfield Court estate sleeps two.

Oastbrook Estate, Robertsbridge

Heralding a celebration of wine and good times, Oastbrook Estate Vineyard is all about delivering a fun experience for its guests, from the interactive tours – including one tailored especially for kids –to its lively events and quirky accommodation.
Good for: families, special events, and unique stays.
Visit: vineyard tours and tastings from April to October and winery tours and tastings from November to March.

As the largest single-estate producer of English organic wine, nurturing is a natural way of life for Oxney Organic, and the care that goes into the growing is reflected in its exceptional English sparkling and still wine.
Good for: outstanding organic wine.
Visit: tours run twice a day on Saturdays from May to October and once a day on Saturdays from November to April.
Closest railway station: Rye, 15-minute drive.
Stay: stay in the vineyard in the Jacobean house or shepherd’s huts, or in The Oxney Barns a short drive away.

Oxney Organic

Tillingham Estate Vineyard, Rye

Farm diversification at its finest, Tillingham Estate Vineyard is a mixed farm – complete with vineyards, fruit trees, ancient woodland, and livestock – which combines traditions from its rich farming history with a forward-thinking vineyard outlook.
Live music events are held regularly in the beautiful Dutch barn looking out over the Tillingham River valley, excellent seasonal food is served in the Michelin Green Star restaurant, and special events include art workshops and wellbeing days.
Good for: special events, live music, wellbeing events and workshops.
Visit: tours at Tillingham include a taste-through of four Vintage’ 23 wines and a guided tour with an expert of the vineyard and winery.
Closest railway station: Rye, 20-minute drive.
Stay: Tillingham’s recently renovated former hop barn has 11 double rooms and there are also two bell tents for glamping.

Sedlescombe Organic, Robertsbridge

Founded in 1979, Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard is England’s oldest organic wine estate, set in the beautiful Sussex countryside. Spanning 22 acres, the vineyard is certified organic and biodynamic, producing award-winning white, rosé, red, and sparkling wines—all suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Visitors can enjoy free self-guided tours, wine flights, and cheese pairings. 

Rooted in sustainability and biodynamic principles, Sedlescombe offers a unique and eco-conscious wine experience in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Beacon Down Vineyard, Heathfield

Nestled in beautiful High Weald near Heathfield – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – Beacon Down is a family-run vineyard with vines overlooking Eastbourne and the South Downs.
Good for: a beautifully down-to-earth vineyard experience.
Visit: tours and tastings are available on selected Saturdays from May to September with the option to add a picnic.

Bluebell Vineyard Estate, Uckfield

Named for its setting amongst bluebell-filled woods, Bluebell Vineyard Estate sits on the edge of Ashdown Forest. Growing classic sparkling wine varieties and using traditional winemaking techniques in Sussex terroir, the Bluebell collection reflects the distinctly English stamp on sparkling wine with unique fruit character.
Good for: woodland walks – especially for bluebells in the spring – take one of the three trails taking in views of the vines, woodlands, and ponds, and finish back at the Tasting Room for some Sussex wine.
Visit: Wine tasting experiences at Bluebell Vineyard include the relaxed and informative tour and tasting. Alternatively, take a stroll through the vineyard and enjoy the stunning Sussex countryside at your own pace with the self-guided vineyard and woodland trail.

Coes Farm is a family-run 500-year-old farm with an organic vineyard, micro-winery, formal gardens, lake, and organic vines producing natural wines with minimal intervention.
Good for: small-scale serenity, natural wines, and gorgeous gardens.
Visit: from 2026 Coes Farm will be offering vineyard tours and the opportunity to sample wine onsite.
Closest railway station: Uckfield, 20-minute drive.

Mousehall is a family-run sustainable distillery and winery comprising Tidebrook Wines and Mousehall Spirits (making Mousehall Sussex Dry Gin and Triple Distilled Fresh Citrus Vodka) on an 11th-century country estate in a natural valley within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Good for: combined winery and distillery visits.
Visit: the Tidebrook Wine Experience can be combined with the Mousehall Spirits Experience for a full winery and distillery tour and tasting.

As the world's first grower-producer of sparkling wine to achieve B Corp certification, Rathfinny Wine Estate has been a winemaking trailblazer for sustainability, spearheading the Sussex PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) for Sussex Sparkling. The Estate has earned a reputation as one of England's finest wine destinations, with a Michelin-recommended Tasting Room Restaurant.

A small and friendly vineyard in a woodland setting, Wildwood Vineyard can be reached on a heritage steam train via the Spa Valley Railway. Bring a picnic to enjoy in the woods or vineyard, there’s also a woodland natural trail for children.
Good for: woodland surroundings, family fun, and arriving by train.
Visit: tours and tastings take place on most Saturdays and Sundays from May to September.

Winklestone Vineyard – which takes its name from local rock seam containing fossilised winkle shells – is a small, family-run organic vineyard in the Ashdown Forest with an ethos of producing high-quality, organic wine that makes a difference to the environment and the village community.
Good for: community credentials, sustainability, and woodland walks in the Ashdown Forest.
Visit: tours and tastings are available by appointment.

Highdown Vineyard, Worthing

Sitting between Littlehampton and Worthing, the Highdown Vineyard doubles as a stunning event venue and scenic backdrop for weddings, celebrations, and private parties.
Good for: group visits and celebrations which can be personalised to include cream teas, canapes or a light lunch.
Visit: group tastings and vineyard tours can be arranged by appointment.
Closest railway station: Goring-by-Sea, 10-minute drive.

Highdown Vineyard

Wiston Estate, Pulborough

The Wiston Estate has been farmed by the Goring family for over 275 years and its vineyard was planted in 2006. Together with renowned winemaker, Dermot Sugrue, the family estate has produced varieties of sparkling white wines that have gone on to win awards year after year.
Wiston Estate has wonderful walking routes and cycling routes and the adventurous can take guided bike tours finishing with lunch at the Chalk Restaurant.
Good for: walking and cycling in the South Downs followed by a vineyard lunch.
Visit: the Chalk Restaurant and Cellar Door shop are open from Wednesday to Sunday. The Wiston Estate’s regular tours include the Vineyard Explorer Tour through the summer months on alternate Saturdays and the Sundowner Safari Tour, Tasting & Dinner on selected Fridays from May to September.
Closest railway station: Worthing or Horsham, 20-minute drive.
Stay: The Pump House is a charming cottage on the Wiston Estate which sleeps up to four.
